DIY Self Care Saturday

It seems like everyday I wake up (thank God I actually wake up) there is continued talks about COVID-19 and how it’s affecting the world. It can and has been a bit annoying at times not to mention overwhelming so I find things and ways to break free from the pandemic to clear my mind.

So I did my first DIY “Self Care Saturday” and thought I’d share it with you because…why not? Who doesn’t look to pamper themselves every now and then.

First I started off with the basics like taking a calming shower followed by brushing my teeth. Next I put my teeth whitening trays in and let them sit for about 15 minutes while I unboxed my new facial steamer and set it up. Here’s where it got fun.

I started off cleansing my skin with Garnier’s new Skin Active Soothing Cleansing Milk. My skin has been a bit dry the past few months which meant I needed to amp up my water intake as well as add moisture to my skincare regime. I’m typically o…

I started off cleansing my skin with Garnier’s new Skin Active Soothing Cleansing Milk. My skin has been a bit dry the past few months which meant I needed to amp up my water intake as well as add moisture to my skincare regime. I’m typically oily during the spring summer months but I guess my skin is changing now that I’m getting older. It’s totally normal and I embrace it fully.

I like the idea of a cleansing milk but I’m not a fan of the fact that it doesn’t lather up or get frothy. I live (not love), I live for bubble extravaganza on my face while I’m cleansing. There’s just something about those bubbles that ensure me that my skin is getting the best bath that it can get. So when I don’t see bubbles I frown and feel like I’m missing out on my cleansing experience. I usually use Origins or Image skincare products but was trying to find something quick in the store that I didn’t have to order. Well that didn’t work out and I’ll be placing an order soon.

Self care skincare wouldn’t be the same without a steamer! So after cleansing my face I steamed it to open my pores and let my skin breathe. I’ve been wanting an at-home steamer for about a year now and just never purchased one until last month. I decided to go with the NanoSteamer 3-n-1 Ionic Facial Steamer from Amazon. It really felt good and was a really cool experience. I’ve had facial steaming done during a facial a few times so I’m not new to the technique and the only difference is that I was standing up in my bathroom instead of laying down at a spa on a table.

You have to make sure to keep your distance from the steamer so that you don’t burn your skin (per the directions) but it’s not hard to do. I’m short so I was the perfect hight for the steam to hit my face just right. If you’re taller then you may need to put in on a box or something sturdy.

I’ve used this Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask for years. It’s really the only mask I have ever used at home now that I think about it. Hey, if it ain’t broke then don’t try to fix it…so I haven’t. This mask is cooling to the skin and feels super hydrating. It’s thick and creamy and glides on so easy. The fact that it detoxes the skin and unclogs pores are two bonuses to this heaven in a tube. I simply apply it all over my face and neck and let it sit for about 10-15 minutes then I rinse it off.

Masks are trending right now in the beauty industry and I’m a fan. I follow a few makeup artists on Instagram and sometimes they share their favorite products with the world. That’s when I take notes (or screenshots). So while scrolling on “the ‘Gra…

Masks are trending right now in the beauty industry and I’m a fan. I follow a few makeup artists on Instagram and sometimes they share their favorite products with the world. That’s when I take notes (or screenshots). So while scrolling on “the ‘Gram” I found out about LuLuLun face masks. Funny name. Great masks!

These face masks can be used daily (which I don’t do) and come in a quite a few types to choose from like “Series Regular” pink (the one I use (for dry skin)) or blue (extremely dry skin). “Series Precious” red (signs of aging) or gold (mature skin). I love that these masks are inexpensive as well as you have the option to get a small pack or a large.

Once I took the mask off I simply rubbed the remaining product in to my skin and followed with my Garnier Skin Active Soothing moisturizer and called it a day.
