I never imagined I would ever be a wedding hairstylist in McAllen, and then Lisa reached out to me. Lisa and I met when she found me on Instagram simply using hashtags.
Imagine my surprise when I found out that she was having her wedding in such a small town and what a coincidence it was that I had been there before. Yep! That’s right, during a family vacation to South Padre island many years ago, my mom and I ended up in McAllen wedding dress shopping for my upcoming wedding. Little did I know that I would be there to provide beauty services for my bride twenty years later.
Lisa and I also connected because she is Seventh-Day Adventist, and I was raised in the faith. As you can guess, we hit it off, and I was hired to provide hair services for her and her wedding party soon after that.
WEDDING DAY
On a typical day, a wedding day would have been relatively easy, but a destination wedding during a pandemic is a bit different.
Since she had to change her wedding plans due to COVID-19 and downsize her guest list, the location for her wedding and reception changed. We now had to figure out how we could provide hairstyling services for her and her bridal party of six and safely socially distance ourselves as well. Pre-pandemic, this type of scenario wouldn’t have even mattered, but in November 2020, keeping everyone safe was a main priority.
HER HAIR
For Lisa’s hair, she wanted a flat-ironed style. Since she has naturally curly hair, my suggestion was a Keratin treatment so that she would be able to wear her desired style without the worry of humidity and sweat. Since she was miles away, I would have frequent FaceTime chats with her to give guidance and help ease the stress, so she wouldn’t have to worry.
She was able to get a Keratin treatment from a local stylist a few weeks before the wedding. When I arrived, everything went well, and I was able to flat iron and curl her hair with no problem, pin her crown in place, and seal the deal with hairspray and spray shine.
HER PARTY
Her bridesmaids, mother, and mother-in-love all got their hair curled in down hairstyles. First, curling and pinning the hair to cool down to last longer than removing the pins right before it was time for them to leave for the ceremony.
