Wedding In Louisiana | Toria + Cartez

Toria and I met over five years ago because she needed a hairstylist for her wedding then. We immediately hit it off, and after the marriage, we remained friends over the years keeping in touch via social media and text messages. That marriage didn’t work out, but hey, that’s how things happen sometimes. But guess what, REAL love found her and came knocking at her door, so you can imagine how excited I was when I got the message to ask me if I’d do her hair and makeup for her wedding in Louisiana. You know I said yes immediately!

I was thrilled to see that she had found true happiness, was going to marry her best friend, and have a second chance at love because she truly deserved it! Not only was I honored to be there by her side (again), but I was genuinely warm-hearted that she was marrying her forever man!

Toria was pretty calm on her wedding day. Another artist that Toria hired and I were on glam duty for the big day, so we worked simultaneously getting her party of ten people ready to “second line” down the aisle for this wedding in Louisiana. We ran into a minor scheduling hiccup because we had to change rooms in the hotel, but we did our best to get everyone done on time. We did not succeed, but sometimes these things don’t always go as planned. Nonetheless, it all worked out, and everyone looked beautiful.

Her Hair:

Toria was one of my “I trust you” brides, so we didn’t do a trial run. Plus, she lived in Louisiana and works in the medical field, so her schedule didn’t allow us to link up to do a run-through. We did discuss the look, and she knew that she was in good hands, so I created a simple up-do for her so that I would be able to take it down for her reception outfit change easily. She wore a crystal-beaded headpiece in her hair, along with a veil.

Her Makeup:

She chose airbrush makeup because of the heat in June and wanted longevity with her look. She requested her eyes to “pop,” so I decided on a smokey bronze eye shadow look focusing on highlighting and contouring her brows, cheeks, and forehead. I finished her look with a nude lip (which she took home from my kit since it was brand new). Toria has lash extensions, so there were no lashes applied.

I attended the wedding and reception and did touch-ups on her hair/makeup as needed.

Her wedding party:
The wedding party picked their looks, so there was no “one look” for them all. Both the other artist and I did custom looks for each person.

WHAT DID SHE SAY?

“Nyoka was absolutely committed to making my wedding day special. I had several things fall apart that day, and Nyoka remained encouraging and by my side. I love that she gave me a “touch-up” kit to last the reception. She stayed through my wedding and, after, touched up my tear streaks. Nyoka is thoughtful and caring. This shows in her work. You can see this is her passion. After our first conversation, I knew I was in good hands and made a friend for life.”
