How We Met
Emily and I met when she landed on my website via The Knot and decided to fill out my contact form. As always, I went through the proper channels (like I do with each bride) and then scheduled a time to chat with her so that I could see what her wedding beauty vision was. She mentioned that she needed hair & makeup for her wedding at Shirley Acres in April and then we went on chatting.
If you know Emily then you know SHE CAN TALK…and talks kind of fast so I remembered trying to take notes as fast as I could and asked questions in between her breathes. Being that I’m a talker and she’s a talker, you can only imagine how our conversations can go on and on for hours…no like fa reals!! She’s such a fun-spirited female and A BOSS! No, like for real. This Delta Sigma Theta bride planned a wedding while finishing Pharmacy school. She literally got married and graduated in one months time…she’s amazing!
The Wedding
Emily was not a hair person so she totally leaned on me for direction and advice. She asked questions and I was happy to answer and even happier to see that she would implement what I was saying to her wedding beauty. Now, originally she wanted a half up-half down hairstyle and that’s exactly what she got. Until…
I did her hair and makeup for her trial session and we agreed on everything. I asked her if she wanted to take her hair down (from the up style) and she said “yes”. Well, once I took her hair down she fell in love. She then was conflicted as to whether to wear her hair in the original style or all down like she was seeing herself in the mirror. Well as you can see from the photos, she chose to wear it all down.
Her Hair: As suggested to most of my brides, clip-ins were installed to give Emily length and a little volume. She is 100% natural and her hair is pretty thick so we didn’t need much volume for this style. Her hair was then curled and pinned to allow the curls to cool down and set before styling them.
Her Makeup: Emily sweats very easily on her face so I suggested airbrush makeup for her. Besides, the wedding was going to be outside so I wanted to make sure her makeup could withstand this Houston humidity. We went with a nude-mauve eye look with a gold shimmer lid and a matching lip. Don’t forget about the lashes, I applied bold mink lashes to give those eyes some pop!
Her Bridesmaids, Mom Mother-n-law, & Sister-n-law: all got neutral makeup looks using traditional makeup, with lashes and nude lips.
